Iran's University team all set for 3x3 FISU WUL Finals

Chinese women's teams top Asian qualifying


As the clock ticks, we get ever closer to the 3x3 FISU World University League Finals in Xiamen, China this November. The best university teams from around the world have played qualifying tournaments over the last several months, for the honour to represent their continent.

 

Among the 32 teams in contention in Xiamen are 8 of Asia’s own, 4 of which have qualified through this continental tournament. In addition, there are the two host teams from China – Huaqiao University and Peking Univeristy – as well as the defending champions Mon-Altius Physical Education Institute of Mongolia (men) and Chinese Culture University of Taipei (women).

 

The Asian Qualifying Tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in July 2018. The field included 16 teams that represented China, Iran, Mongolia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taipei, Macau, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Philippines.

 

Civil Aviation University of China emerged on top, winning all 6 of the games they played, followed closely by Iran’s Payame Noor University who lost only the final, 13-15, to the table toppers. For the 4 young men who will represent Asia at the Finals, it will be a dream come true.

 

The Iranian team consists of Ebrahim Beygi, Mohsen Abedivarankeshi,Reza Zarei Tabeshand Shayan Pourkaveh.

 

In the women’s field, the Qualifying Tournament saw 13 teams in action with Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and Tsinghua University, both from China, emerged as the top two ranked teams that will be in action on home ground in Xiamen, come November.
